It is always a little strange when one arrives early only to find the site already over half full, as was the case this weekend. Having said this, when we arrived on Friday afternoon we were followed in by two more vans and they kept coming right up until Saturday mid-morning.
And what a meet this turned out to be! The first get together of the weekend on Friday evening was so popular that some of us had to send out for more chairs :o. It was good to see so many families out and reminded me of days past when camping was a truly family experience. It was also good (I must mention) to see so many responsible dog owners about; I lost count of the amount of dogs that I saw this weekend, but not one was without a lead and owner. Well done folks ;D
Into Saturday and there was a huge party for Joshua Naylors fifth birthday and other events such as the Best dressed potato and the Best dressed wellington!
Saturday evening found a lot of us packed into the hall again for several presentations and announcements; Roy Lothian received a special award for his dedication to the club in thirty years of stewarding events and other involvement. One lady who was celebrating her 100th birthday was also recognised and as the theme was of course an Irish evening (being St Patricks day), copious amounts of Guinness were imbibed by quite a few green clad and strange hatted gents ::).
Sunday morning saw a coffee morning before we all headed off to our various trailers, caravans and motor homes to reluctantly pack up and return home.
I would like to say for myself, a huge thank you to Mary and Eric and ALL the folks who worked hard to make this a wonderful weekend for us all. Personally I think that this weekend was a huge success especially after talking to a few of the newcomers to our DA who had nothing but praise to pass on to you all; these included a couple of ex-members from another club ;) so we must be doing something right folks! Well done
Peter
