Astley Green Mining Museum

Site: Astley Green Mining Museum

Astley Green is a mining museum and as thus has many old pieces of mining equipment on display.

Some people turn up to camp only to turn around saying that they 'don't want to camp at a scrapyard.' This to my mind rather cheapens the memory of all those folks who quite literally gave their lives to mines such as this just to keep our 'home fires burning' through a couple of world wars and well on afterwards. But this is just my point of view.

The site is to my mind an excellent one to go to on your first time out. Unlike many camp sites it is not in the middle of nowhere and it is flat enough for even a novice to find a level.

There are two halls, one downstairs and one up..I must say that I prefer the upstairs as there is a chance for an open fire in the cooler evenings.

Wherever you camp on the site you are within 100yds of 2 pubs and an excellent chip shop (which also does breakfast for those who don’t want to cook) and a nice stroll will bring you to the canal.

Next time you see a meet here, give it a go, you might just love it as much as my family does.
